Backyard Weddings pt 2
I decided to split my backyard wedding blog into two parts because both weddings deserve their own moment.
The second wedding I wanted to talk about is Megan and Ross’s wedding in Bakersfield, California in Megan’s childhood family home. I met Megan back in 2015 when her and I worked at the same restaurant together in North County San Diego. While I was taking my photography classes at community college, Megan would often model for me for my assignments. Her and Ross reached out to me in 2023 and asked if I would travel to Bakersfield to shoot their wedding. Again, of course I said yes.
My husband and I traveled to north LA on a Friday afternoon and on Saturday morning I drove up to Bakersfield where Megan and Ross would become husband and wife. The suburban home sitting on a full 18 hole golf course was transformed into the space where Megan and Ross would say “I do”.
I found Megan in the bedroom which she grew up in, getting ready with her sister and closest friends. While she got ready I captured the moments exchanged with the ones she loves dearly and also found Ross on the other side of the house where he got dressed with his brother.
Megan and Ross did a first look as well as exchanged private vows all in front of the wall of bougainvilleas which her mom and dad had spent the months leading up to the day tending to ensure its full bloom on the big day. And it was perfect.
Followed by the ceremony, me and the wedding party all went to a shaded spot on the golf course and did the wedding party photos and Ross and Megan’s romantic photos.
The rest of the evening was spent enjoying Megan’s aunt’s catered food, dancing under the moonlight to Taylor Swift, eating baked goods and celebrating Mr & Mrs Jewell.
If you couldn’t guess, I recommend backyard weddings.
